Ollantaytambo is considered as a very interesting city because they still keep the old ways of living, the amazing Irrigation Systems.Eventhough they have modern restaurant and hotels all of them get their water supplies by this irrigation system. Up on the mountain you can see the gorgeous andens and the monolites made out of granito rosado or pink stone. Another attraction would be the narrow roads drawn on a perfect straight line and just like old times they still keep their acueducts located on the middle of the road. All these streets have kept their Inka names and even the people from this town still dress on their old costums.

Ollantaytambo

>> MEANING: The name was given to this little village after the fantastic play written by the Inka Garcilaso de la Vega called Drama Ollantay. This great play was compiled by the humanistic Cusqueñan writer from the Colonial times: Juan Espinoza Medrano (known as el Lunarejo). This drama was performed in 1780 in Ollantaytambo.

>> ALTITUDE: It is located at 3025 metres above the sea level. 

>> WEATHER: the weather is dry and humid, depending on the seasons.  The temperature varies between 11º and 16ºC.

>> LOCATION: It is located above both banks of the Vilcanota river , province of Urubamba and department of Cusco. >> ACCESS: The only way to get there is by bus, and as well as some other places you can either take a public bus or take a tour.Public buses leave from Cusco to Urubamba every 20 minuts from 05:00 to 19:00 everyday, once in Urubamba you can take a "colectivo" to take you to Ollantaytambo. >> AREA: It has an area of 6714 hectares.
